Renewable Energy Gaining Steam
With solar and wind generation leading the way, renewable energy sources surpassed fossil fuel generation for the first time in 2015. According to the International Energy Association, half a million solar panels were installed every day last year, and two wind turbines were installed every hour in China.
All around the world the tide is turning and renewables are gaining ground. IEA projects renewables will continue to outpace fossil fuels over the next five years, and in the US the growth of renewable generation will exceed the growth of electrical demand.
While this is good news, there is a lot of work ahead. Renewables remain a niche source of energy for building heating and transportation. But the acceleration of alternative energy generation demonstrates our ability to mitigate human impact on the environment--if we make the right choices.
