Why We Do What We Do
The Bronx is a neighborhood that has borne, and continues to bear, a heavy environmental burden for the rest of New York City. Every day thousands of trucks pass through the Bronx producing toxic air pollution. The South Bronx handles 100% of the waste produced in the Bronx and nearly a quarter of all New York City's commercial waste.
For the seventh year in a row, the Bronx was rated the least healthy county in New York. Environmental justice isn't an abstract concept--it has real world consequences.
The South Bronx is the poorest Congressional district in America and has some of the worst health outcomes. Intervine is committed to addressing both these challenges by generating employment opportunities that build more sustainable--and livable--neighborhoods.
